based in Oxelösund and Landsort


Working as a Boatman
As a Boatman, you are responsible for performing sea transport and, when applicable, land transport as well as on/over ice. The work includes maintenance and care of the Swedish Maritime Administration's property and equipment. The position includes participation in rescue missions, for which we offer special further training. The operation runs 24/7, year-round, which means that both day, evening, and night shifts occur according to a fixed work schedule. Work periods range from 1 to 7 days, depending on where in the country you work.

The pilot boat is manned by two Boatmen, one of whom is the captain and the other is the first mate/deckhand. To serve as a first mate, a minimum of Class VII Ship Officer qualification and internal training is required. To serve as a captain, a minimum of Class VI Ship Officer qualification and internal training is required.

Sweden is divided into nine pilot transport areas along our long coast. We are now looking for boatmen for the East area, which includes the pilot stations in Oxelösund and Landsort.

Who are you?
You must meet the following requirements:
- minimum Class VII Ship Officer qualification (not limited to inland waters)
- minimum Class VIII Engineering Officer degree
- Basic Safety certificate
- minimum ROC certificate
- medical certificate for seafarers (deck service in unrestricted waters)
- B driver's license (manual transmission vehicle)
- good skills in reading and speaking Swedish and English
- good skills in working with modern maintenance systems

Furthermore, you need to have good skills in operating smaller vessels (approximately 10-40 meters in length) and you must have a good ability to perform technical service and maintenance.

It is advantageous if you have

- Class VI Ship Officer qualification or higher

You see what needs to be done, take initiative, and take responsibility for your tasks. You are flexible, solution-oriented, and have good communication skills.

The position may require Swedish citizenship. A security clearance with a background check may be conducted before a job offer.

You must provide proof of qualifications, certificates, and medical certificates by attaching a current seafarer service extract from the Transport Agency.
